WPT Champions Cup renamed after Mike Sexton

Mike Sexton is one of the founders of legendary WPT Poker Tour. In 2009, he became the member of the Poker Hall of Fame due to his contribution to the development of poker game. It is not surprising that WPT Champions Cup was named after him.

WPT became the first one to have its own challenge cup. It remains unchanged from year to year, but the winner and owner of cup changes. At the end of each season of World Poker Tour, the winner's initials are engraved on the cup.

Last week, WPT organizers announced about this trophy renaming in honor of Mike Sexton. Mike was a permanent WPT commentator since its first episode. However, in 2017 he became PartyPoker expert and retired from commentator post.

Mike didn’t hide his joy after finding out that the cup would be named after him.

Despite Sexton’s leaving WPT commentator post, he keeps being invited to broadcasting. You won’t make a muddle of his signature voice with someone else's.  

In turn, WPT CEO Adam Pliska noted Sexton's great contribution to the development of WPT. Adam believes that Mike is a real WPT embodiment and he greatly benefited to poker.
