The United Kingdom to ban the use of credit cards in gambling

Gambling in the UK

The UK Gambling Commission estimates that about 24 million British people are gambling, and 10.5 million of them prefer playing online. Members of the Commission claim that 22% of the players who use credit cards are problematic ones, therefore it was agreed to prohibit the use of credit cards in gambling across the United Kingdom.

According to the Gambling Commission, such a decision was taken due to the fact that usage of credit cards for replenishing accounts on gambling sites can lead to large financial losses. This should help to minimize all the risks.

The ban is expected to take effect on April 14 and will apply to all types of gambling. The poker rooms will also go on the list of prohibition, but most players already use alternative deposit methods, such as Skrill, Neteller, etc.

In addition, the Commission will oblige all online casinos to operate under the Gamestop program, which was created so that compulsive gamblers would block their access to gambling sites. Starting from March 31, each gambling operator will have to join this program in order to obtain the license.
