However, the heads-up lasted only a few hands. Laszlo Papai raised to 500 000 chips from the button with A-10s, and Christopher Puetz 3-bet to 2 million with A-Jo.
Papai shoved and got an instant call from the opponent. Their stacks were approximately equal, so that this hand could be called a battle for the championship. None of the players hit the board, and Puetz eventually won the decisive hand according to the kicker.
After such a serious loss, Papai went all-in with pocket fours, and Puetz decided to call with Q-9o.
The flop came as 4-9-Q rainbow, giving the Hungarian player little hope to make a comeback, but the turn showed Q, which meant that the German completed a full house. Laszlo wasn’t able to improve his set to quads on the river, and Christopher finally secured his victory in this tournament.
Throughout his poker career, Christopher Puetz has earned over $305 000 in live tournaments. The prize money he received in the WPT Germany Main Event 2020 is his largest payout. Before this victory, his best result was $7 000 for the 25th place at the WSOPC ME 2019 with $1 830 buy-in.
